County backing dealer’s appeals

Don Ayres fights closure by GM

The Allen County commissioners agreed to send a letter of support this week for Don Ayres Pontiac GMC Honda to retain its local GM franchise.

Although they took no vote Monday, the three commissioners agreed to sign a letter supporting the local dealership after making some minor changes.

GM sent letters to Don Ayres and five other regional car and truck dealers last May stating their franchise agreements wouldn’t be renewed when they expire this October. To combat that, the company is going through an appeals process to retain that franchise, which includes getting support from local elected officials.

Similar support will be sought from the Allen County Council, Fort Wayne City Council and Mayor Tom Henry, said Paul Lagemann, a consultant representing the company.
