Indiana slumped down the stretch, falling to Northwestern 73-58 in the first round of the Big Ten tournament Thursday.
The Hoosiers led 45-39 with 12:56 to go. They were outscored 34-13 the rest of the way to see their season end with a 10-21 record.
Turnovers again proved costly. IU had 19 turnovers, which led to 29 Northwestern points.
"We’d come out of the timeout and we played very tentative, our young guys played extremely tentative," IU coach tom Crean said. "It’s to be expected to a degree when you’re in the postseason like this, and you’ve got to go through it.
"… When you’re turning it over like we did, you just lose confidence so fast because they’re getting easy baskets."
