Flood watch issued for St. Joseph River

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for the St. Joseph River in Allen and DeKalb counties in Indiana and Defiance and Williams counties in Ohio.

The watch will be in effect beginning late Friday night.

Melting snow and an inch or more of rain expected during the next several days might result in minor flooding of lowlands and agricultural fields, the weather service said.

As of 10 a.m. Thursday, the river was 10.3 feet and rising in the Newville, Ind., area. Flood stage is 12 feet.

At 11 feet, lowland and minor lowland flooding will begin, the weather service said.
