Suspect charged with murder in overnight shooting

A man has been arrested on a murder charge in connection with an overnight shooting death on Fort Wayne's northeast side, city police said today.

Matthew Pufahl, 25, whose address was not disclosed, was located by detectives in the office of a local attorney, where he was arrested without incident, police said in a statement.

The victim's name and manner of death will be released by the Allen County Coroner's Office, police said.

They said officers responded to a report of a shooting about 3:15 a.m. in the 2700 block of Northgate Boulevard. Officers found the victim in a parking lot behind a building in the 5200 block of Stonehedge Boulevard, the statement said.

It said the victim and the suspect had an ongoing feud during the last week. They encountered each other at a bar, where a disturbance erupted and they were asked to leave, the statement said. It said they then met at Northgate and Stonehedge boulevards, where another altercation erupted and shots were fired.

City police, the Allen County Prosecutor's Office and the Allen County Coroner's Office are investigating, the statement said.
