Anderson apologizes for criticizing Browns fans

– Former Browns quarterback Derek Anderson has apologized after saying Cleveland fans “don’t deserve a winner” following his release.

Anderson was let go by the club Tuesday, ending an uneven five-year stint with the Browns.

In an e-mail to the (Willoughby) News-Herald after his release, Anderson wrote he will never forget that Browns fans cheered when he was injured on the field. He called them “ruthless” and said he hopes when he comes back to Cleveland with another team that “we roll them.”

On Wednesday, Anderson says he regrets some of the things he said. He adds his remarks are out of character and that he had some great times playing in Cleveland, “especially during the 2007 season.”

Anderson made the Pro Bowl in ’07 but had two subpar seasons after that.

Tomlinson to visit with Vikings

LaDainian Tomlinson is coming to Minnesota for a visit, and the Vikings think he’d be a good fit. Tomlinson is scheduled to meet with coach Brad Childress and other Vikings officials today. The 2006 NFL MVP was released by the San Diego Chargers last month.

Steelers teammate not a witness

Pittsburgh Steelers tackle Willie Colon was with teammate Ben Roethlisberger on the night the quarterback was accused of sexual assault in a Georgia club but did not witness anything, Colon’s agent said. Colon was at the Capital City nightclub in Milledgeville, Ga., last Friday for a birthday party for Roethlisberger. But Joe Linta, Colon’s agent, said by phone that Colon was on the dance floor and not close by when Roethlisberger allegedly sexually assaulted a 20-year-old college student.
