  • Komets affiliate with Avs, Lake Erie
The Komets have aligned with the NHL's Colorado Avalanche and their American Hockey League team, the Lake Erie Monsters.
  • This is sad news
Former Komets star Joe Kastelic, who once owned the record for most goals scored in the IHL, died Wednesday at 81. He skated for the Komets from 1953 to 1957 and then again in 1960-61.
  • Major signings for Komets
The Komets bolstered their roster with a potential No. 1 goaltender, a former first-round NHL draft pick, a familiar face and player who should be popular with the fans.

Total domination

It might not be the best back-to-back periods the Komets have played this season. But it can't be far off.

Two periods are history now in Memorial Coliseum, and the Komets have thoroughly jailed the Lumberjacks. It's 4-0 -- Konstantin Shafranov cashed a rebound 47 seconds in, and Danko Mironovic scored a shorthanded goal at 4:18 -- and the Lumberjacks haven't gotten so much as a sniff at the other end. Haun's faced 18 shots but hasn't really been tested; the Komets' defense is taking away all the angles, diving to block shots and gobbling up every loose puck in their own end.
