The Internet has gotten its way: Betty White will host “Saturday Night Live.”

NBC said that the actress, 88, will host the show May 8. “SNL” executive producer Lorne Michaels says he can’t think of a better way to spend Mother’s Day weekend than with White.

The announcement followed a campaign on Facebook urging the sketch show to make the “Golden Girls” co-star a host. The group attracted nearly 500,000 supporters.

YouTuber arrested

A Georgia man who posted a video on YouTube of himself holding a sign saying “Elton John Must Die” has been arrested for making terroristic threats.

Atlanta Police Sgt. Curtis Davenport says Neal Horsley was arrested Wednesday in Carrollton. Davenport wouldn’t say who Horsley is accused of threatening, but Horsley’s son, Nathan, says the arrest is connected to the video, in which Horsley complains about John’s comments in an interview last month that Jesus Christ was gay.

Horsley was being held in jail on $40,000 bond.

‘Spartacus’ star ill

Andy Whitfield, 38, who plays the title role in the Starz series “Spartacus: Blood and Sand,” has been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The British-born actor has begun treatment.

The network says the cancer was discovered during a routine checkup as Whitfield prepared to begin shooting Season 2 of the action-adventure series in New Zealand. (Season 1 concludes in April.)

Starz said production has been postponed while Whitfield gets treatment for his “very treatable” condition.

Simon & Schuster Books for Young readers said the actress-singer will work on a series of young-adult novels that starts with “Elixir,” to be published in October. The first novel will feature the worldwide adventures of photojournalist Clea Raymond.

Duff also plans a non-fiction book about children coping with divorce, set for 2012. Duff has written about her parents’ separation in the songs “Stranger” and “Gypsy Woman.”

Singer’s musical set

A musical celebrating Ray Charles is headed for Broadway this fall. “Unchain My Heart” will open Nov. 7 with preview performances beginning Oct. 8.

Producer Stuart Benjamin said the show would feature a book by Suzan-Lori Parks and direction by Sheldon Epps. Casting will be announced.

Benjamin worked with the late singer for 15 years and produced “Ray,” the hit movie about his life starring Jamie Foxx. Parks won a Pulitzer Prize for her play “Topdog/Underdog.”

Serious about Ohio

“The Price Is Right” host Drew Carey is showcasing his hometown, Cleveland, in a six-part series of online videos suggesting remedies to the city’s problems.

The comedian argues for less government, more competition and less taxes to revitalize Cleveland in 10-minute segments set to begin appearing next week on the site Reason.TV. It’s affiliated with the Reason Foundation, a non-partisan, libertarian-leaning organization that has Carey has a board member.

In an intro to the series, Carey says he loves Cleveland and says the city is going through “tough times” with a troubled economy, troubled schools and ongoing population losses.
