Irish going south ... and that's a good thing

Notre Dame is off to New Orleans.

The Irish (23-11) were seeded sixth in the South Region and will play 11th-seeded Old Dominion (26-8) on Thursday in New Orleans.

Also in the pod is third-seeded Baylor playing 14th-seeded Sam Houston St, and the second round game will be played Saturday.

Notre Dame really must have impressed the selection committee with its end of season run and reaching the semifinals of the Big East tournament.

It was hard to imagine the Irish getting into the tournament much less being a sixth seed in mid-February, but six wins in a row and coming within a three-pointer of reaching the conference finals sure can do wonders for a team.
