Statement issued Thursday by Indiana State Police:
St. Joseph County – Thursday morning, just after 9:00 a.m., Indiana State Trooper Pete Bradley stopped a 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer on the Indiana Toll Road near the 71-mile marker, in South Bend. The routine traffic stop quickly changed direction after Tpr. Bradley noticed marijuana within the passenger compartment of the car. Trooper Bradley is a K-9 officer assigned to the Toll Road Post in Bristol.
Bradley stopped the driver of the Lancer for a speeding violation. During the course of the traffic stop, Tpr. Bradley noticed a small amount of suspected marijuana in the passenger side door armrest. Bradley and his K-9 partner Rex searched the rest of the vehicle and located nearly $10,000 dollars in the trunk along with several baggies of suspected ecstasy pills and approximately 16 grams of marijuana. The nearly 2,000 pills have an estimated street value of $40,000 dollars.
The driver, Michelle L. Meyer, 21, of Neenah, Wisconsin and her passenger, Shawn C. Wright, 28, of Mishawaka, Indiana, were both placed under arrest and are facing multiple drug charges. Both Meyer and Wright are being held at the St. Joseph County Jail in South Bend.
