Gatorade award doesn't go to Thomas

Apparently Bishop Luers senior Deshaun Thomas can't win 'em all in more ways than one.

After his Knights' two-year run as the Class 2A state champions were ended last week in a regional semifinal loss to Southwood, Thomas also saw his run of individual honors end - to some extent.

The McDonald's All-American and Naismith National Player of the Year finalist lost out to Danville's Travis Carroll for the Gatorade Indiana Boys Basketball Player of the Year.

A Purdue recruit, Carroll averages 19.7 points and 12 rebounds for the Class 3A top-ranked Warriors, who are playing in the semistate Saturday.

Thomas led the state in scoring for a second straight year and finished his career with 3,018 points (only the third male player in state history to go over 3,000), but doesn't have the academic and community involvement acolades of Carroll.
