Molestation of girl, 2, confessed in plea deal

A 23-year-old Leo-Cedarville man admitted Wednesday to molesting a 2-year-old girl, who suffered injuries requiring surgery.

Kyle J. Keane, of the 15000 block of Lions Passage, pleaded guilty Wednesday in Allen Superior Court to a single charge of child molesting, a Class B felony.

In exchange for his guilty plea, prosecutors amended the charge to a lower felony and agreed to dismiss an additional count of battery, according to court documents.

If a judge accepts the plea agreement, Keane will be sentenced to 18 years in prison, with 15 years served and three years on probation.

Keane was arrested in June. He was the only adult at the home with the young girl and her brother last April when the girl was injured. Keane called the girl’s mother and told her to come home, saying the girl had injured herself, court documents said.

A medical examination revealed the girl had tearing in her genitals, and she underwent surgery to repair the damage. Keane initially told police the injuries occurred when he was trying to put a diaper on the girl, records state.
