    A home on Fort Wayne's southeast side sustained heavy fire and smoke damage in a fire Thursday afternoon.

    A man claiming to have a gun robbed a south-side drugstore of prescription painkillers, according to a Fort Wayne police report. The man approached the pharmacy counter in Walgreens at 222 E. Pettit Ave.

    The employee was shot with the stun gun after confronting a man and a woman at a Fort Wayne Kroger store.

Early morning fire damages DeWald Street house

Firefighters battled an early morning blaze that badly damaged a DeWald Street home Saturday.

Fort Wayne firefighters were called to 611 W. DeWald St. about 3:55 a.m. and found heavy smoke and fire coming from the two-story home, the fire department reported.

No one was home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

It took firefighters 26 minutes to bring the fire under control. The fire heavily damaged the first and second floors of the home and spread into the attic.
