Some good things

Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly was unhappy with how his team practiced Wednesday.

He said the team took a step back as the players' attention to detail wasn't where it needed to be.

But he did have some nice things to say about some of the players.

"I like some of the things on defense," Kelly said. "I like (inside linebacker Anthony) McDonald. McDonald's playing downhill, physical. We are looking for another big guy inside.

"I like four safeties right now. I think we got four safeties that showed some real good downhill tackling ability. I put Zeke Motta in that position. I think Jamoris Slaughter, and I really like (Dan) McCarthy and the way he is playing.

Kelly said McDonald and McCarthy have jumped out the most of players who can help the Irish.
