Matt Painter could be on Purdue's sidelines through the 2016-17 season.
Painter signed an eight-year contract Friday for $1.3 million per season. Incentives could add $1 million annually to that deal.
Painter's previous contract would have expired at the end of the 2012-13 season.
The Boilermakers have increased their win total in each of Painter's five seasons, going from only nine victories in his first season to a school record-tying 29 in 2009-10.
The deal was important considering Painter and his staff already are recruiting 2013 prospects. Coaches tend to use contract uncertainty against each other in recruiting, so Painter securing the deal through 2017 shows recruits his commitment to the program.
