Phone scammers target credit union ATM cards

Fort Wayne police have received 50 reports this week from residents who have received calls from a telephone scam that uses the name of a local credit union.

The calls come from an automated voice system that says recipients’ Three Rivers Federal Credit Union ATM cards have been deactivated. The caller then goes on to ask for account information.

Police said this is not a new scam, although seven Fort Wayne residents have given their account information and later found money deducted from their bank accounts. The combined loss is about $2,000.

The calls residents received have come from more than 20 different phone numbers.

Police warn to never share personal or financial information over the phone.
