Founder of Building America's Dream found dead in pond

INDIANAPOLIS – A man who told his wife in a phone call that he was lost and confused has been found dead in an Indianapolis retention pond.

Police said divers found 67-year-old Tony Perkins inside his vehicle when they searched the pond Thursday after a detective spotted tire tracks leading into it.

Perkins was the founder of the Building America's Dream youth organization and heading home its office Tuesday night. He told his wife before leaving that he had a headache.

Valerie Perkins said he agreed in their phone call to return to the office so his brother could pick him up, but that the call abruptly ended. She said the pond on the city's north side should have a barrier to prevent vehicles from going into it.
