Stolen trailer smashes mail boxes

Police responding to a call about a crash south of Lagro found out a stolen trailer had broken free from a stolen truck, both from a home in the area.

Less than an hour later, a suspect was in custody after being stopped for a speeding ticket.

Wabash County sheriff’s deputies were called to Indiana 524 south of Lagro shortly before 11:55 p.m. Saturday to find the trailer carrying a stolen four-wheeler ATV had hit two mailboxes and the truck had fled the scene. Deputies soon determined that the 2006 Ford 150 Super Duty and other items were stolen from a house in the 4600 block of East Old 24, Lagro.

About 12:20 a.m. Sunday, the truck was stopped in Marion to issue a speeding ticket. John P. Holland of Denver, Ind., was taken into custody and charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Charges have also been filed in Wabash County, including burglary, vehicle theft and leaving the scene of a property damage crash.

Holland was being held in the Grant County Jail.
