Two Fulton County men were injured, one critically, when the vehicle they were riding in slammed into a tree, according to Kosciusko County sheriffs deputies.
Deputies were called just after 4 p.m. Sunday to County Road 1000 West just south of County Road 900 South.
Kerguin Baca, 26, of Akron, was driving a Chevy Cavalier south on 1000 West when he drove off the road and struck a tree, deputies said. After impact, the car landed on its roof.
Baca was taken to Fort Waynes Parkview Hospital with serious injuries. His passenger, Yovani Luva, 17, also of Akron, was critically injured. He was also taken to Parkview.
The crash is under investigation by the Kosciusko County Fatal Crash Team. Alcohol is believed to be a factor, but no charges have been filed, deputies said.
Worker escapes southwest barn fire
A barn on the citys southwest side sustained heavy fire damage Monday afternoon, according to Fort Wayne firefighters.
The fire was reported just after 3 p.m. Monday at 8336 Aboite Center Road, near the overpass with Interstate 69. A man was working inside the barn when the fire started but escaped unharmed.
The barns roof collapsed within minutes. Burning straw inside the barn produced a large amount of smoke, firefighters said.
No injuries were reported, and the fire was under control within 30 minutes.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
The Aboite Township and Southwest fire departments assisted in putting out the fire.
Traffic stop leads to Pierceton meth bust
Two Kosciusko County residents were arrested Friday on preliminary felony charges after a traffic stop led to methamphetamine charges, according to Kosciusko County sheriffs deputies.
The Pierceton town marshal pulled over a pickup truck about 10 p.m. Friday during a traffic stop near Market and Fourth streets. An odor of meth was coming from inside the truck and Kosciusko County Drug Task Force members were called for backup.
Both of the trucks occupants were arrested.
Darrell Hatcher, 24, of Pierceton, is charged with a felony count of manufacturing meth.
Elizibeth Likens, 23, of Warsaw, is charged with felony manufacturing meth and aiding and abetting.
Each was being held in lieu of $20,000 bail at the Kosciusko County Jail.
