So far, he's staying

March has gone, and April is almost there, and the moving season among college basketball coaches is nearly coming to an end.

And IPFW's Dane Fife remains in Fort Wayne, after turning down an offer from Michigan and not getting an assistant job at IU.

It's a good thing for the university, and not one for Fife.

He's been here five seasons, and in all five, IPFW's teams and personnel have improved. It was just this season when the Mastodons ended with their first winning season since the school went NCAA Division I in 2001.

I'm not convinced that it's strictly Fife that is keeping the suitors away, but rather than a contract that would force a school to buy out the last two years of his existing contract with IPFW.

There's nothing concrete in this speculation, but just a guess that a buyout clause comes into play here. Once his contract is up after two more years, it's also my guess we've seen the last of Dane.
