Verbatim: Rome City man dies in two-vehicle crash

Written statement issued Monday morning: Sergeant Ron Galaviz, Indiana State Police Public Information Officer, released information related to the fatal Rome City two-vehicle crash.

Rome City-The Indiana State Police investigated a two vehicle crash late last night on State Road 9 at Northport Road that claimed the life of a man from Rome City.

According to Trooper Mike Carroll, at approximately 10:45 pm, a 1997 Dodge van driven by Terry L. Rebman, 55 of Rome City was traveling southbound on State Road 9 in the area of Northport Road when, for an unknown reason, it went left of center and struck a guard rail on the northbound side of State Road 9. After colliding with the guard rail, Rebman’s van then traveled back into the northbound lane where it was struck head on by a northbound 2005 Freightliner semi tractor driven by Jerry W. Brickey, 54 of Syracuse, Indiana.

As a result of the crash, and in spite of wearing his seatbelt, Rebman was pronounced dead at the scene by the Noble County Coroner’s Office. Brickey, who was also wearing his seatbelt, was not injured. It is not known at this time if drugs or alcohol played a role in this crash.

Trooper Carroll was assisted at the scene by the Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division, the Noble County Sheriff Department, the Orange Township Fire Department and the Noble County Coroner’s Office.
