Irish land U.S. Army All-American lineman

Notre Dame picked up yet another recruit this week.

Matt Hegarty, an U.S. Army All-American offensive tackle from Aztec High School in Aztec, N.M., orally committed to the Irish, according to multiple Internet reports.

Hegarty is the fifth commitment after the Blue-Gold Game, but he is the first this week that didn't attend the Saturday scrimmage.

The 6-foot-5, 265-pounder told that he is considering early enrollment and is canceling his remaining recruiting trips.

Hegarty is the ninth commitment for the 2011 class, and he has already picked up on one of coach Brian Kelly's favorite phrases – "At the end of the day …"

"Just talking to coach Kelly, at the end of the day, you could really feel that he believes in what he does and what he's trying to accomplish there," Hegarty told "Looking at the recruiting class they're pulling now, they're really pulling in some quality guys which I hope they continue to do. That's how you start turning things around. I'd like to get in there and help them get that going."

Hegarty's commitment was also reported by Irish Sports Daily and Irish Eyes.
