Komets leading after 1

PORT HURON, Mich. -- The Komets lead the Port Huron Icehawks 1-0 after one period. Center Leo Thomas scored the goal at 3:22. He skated out of the left corner and sent a wrist shot into the top far-side of the net.

It's been a back-and-forth game with a lot of stick work. It's kind of amazing that referee Scott Hoberg awarded only three power plays.

And how about this: After one period, Larry Sterling is out and Raffaele D'Orso is back in net for Port Huron. Don't know why.

  • Funny line of the period from a Port Huron fan: "Hey, Hodgman, go back to the AHL where you belong." Is that an insult?
  • There looks to be about 800 Fort Wayne fans here, and they are rowdy.
