IHSAA board topics include Fort Wayne

The big thing to come out of Monday's IHSAA Board of Directors meeting was the advent of a two-class system in soccer, starting in 2011.

But there were a couple of other items discussed that involved Fort Wayne.

The host site of the girls basketball state finals for 2011 was also discussed. The 2010 state finals were held at the Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne in March.

With no Indianapolis venue scheduled to be available again next season, the Committee agreed to request bids from interested parties with a site selection to be announced this summer.

Fort Wayne is reportedly among those again bidding.

Another matter discussed - and then defeated - was a proposal that would have restricted transfer students when their school closes.

With Elmhurst closing next month, the rule could have affected some student-athletes and could have affected future Harding athletes if the rumors of that school closing ever comes true.

The current conditions of Rule 19-6.3 remain in effect allowing a student whose school closes to enroll (with no penalty) at a public school or private school serving the district in which they reside.
