Irish soccer to return to Fort Wayne

The Notre Dame men's soccer team, which defeated Indiana in a shootout April 17 at Parkview Field, will play two more matches in Fort Wayne during the 2010 season.

The Irish will play exhibition matches against Ohio State (Aug. 28) and IPFW (Aug. 29) in Fort Wayne. The team's first exhibition match will be against UIC on Aug. 23 at home.

Notre Dame opens the regular season against UCLA on Sept. 3 at the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic in Bloomington. The Irish return home the second game of the Classic to take on Cal on Sept. 5.The Irish will play host to the ninth annual Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament on Sept. 10-12. Indiana and Cal Poly will get things underway Sept. 10, and Notre Dame will take on Drake in the second match of the evening. Day two features Indiana facing Drake and the Irish squaring off with Cal Poly. Notre Dame's first true road game is against Michigan on Sept. 17, and the team opens Big East play at home against St. John's at noon Sept. 25 before the football team's home game against Stanford.

Notre Dame will also have a shot at revenge during the season as the Irish take on Northwestern on Sept. 29 at Toyota Park – the home of the MLS's Chicago Fire – in Bridgeview, Ill. The Wildcats have elminated the Irish in the last two NCAA tournaments.

"We have a fantastic schedule this season," Notre Dame head coach Bobby Clark said in a statement. "We play UCLA and Cal, two of the best teams on the West Coast, in the Indiana tournament. Those will be great out-of-region games. Then we have our tournament where we face Drake, who had a tremendous season last year, and Cal Poly, who also had a very good season."

Last season, Notre Dame went 11-8-4 and was the runners-up in the Big East Blue Division at 8-3. The Irish also were finalists at the Big East Championship. Notre Dame defeated Green Bay 2-1 in the first round of the NCAA tournament before falling at Northwestern 3-, in the second round.
