Brey in the big chair

Notre Dame men's basketball coach Mike Brey was elected chairman for the NCAA men's basketball rules committee, the university announced Thursday.

Brey, who is in his fourth year with the committee, replaces former Charlotte coach Bobby Lutz.

The committee stays in touch with rules issues during the season and to compare ideas and gauge opinions on potential rules changes with colleagues in conference and region.

"This is my fourth year on the NCAA Rules Committee and it is an honor to now serve as chair of such an important committee," Brey said in a statement. "Obviously, college basketball is in great shape. But we always want to be mindful of how our game is changing, trends in the game, and what we want our game to look like."
