More honors for Karpun

After recenty being named the Summit League Player of the Week for the third time this season, IPFW junior catcher Kristina (call me Kris) Karpun has gotten another honor.

This time she was named to ESPN The Magazine's Academic All-District team, which was announced Wednesday.

Karpun, who is majoring in general studies but speaks fluent French, has a 3.48 grade point average.

To be eligible for the academic award, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.3 (on a 4.0 scale) in both under grad and graduate work.

Karpun also leads the team with a .385 batting average, 29 runs, 38 RBI, 12 doubles and a conference-leading 12 home runs.

The Mastodons (26-17) will close out their regular season Sunday when they play Oakland in a doubleheader at IPFW, beginning at 3 p.m.
