Irish women's golfer is DQ'd

Notre Dame golfer Annie Brophy was disqualified from the NCAA Central Regional tournament for unsportsmanlike conduct over the weekend.

Brophy gave false scores during the final round of the tournament as a joke, according to The Associated Press.

The attempted humor resulted in her being disqualified on the 14th hole at Otter Creek Golf Course in Columbus on Saturday.

Brophy said her scorecard was correct, but she was giving inaccurate information to people posting the scores, according to the AP.

Nancy Cross, chair of NCAA Division I Women's Golf Committee, told the AP because of the false scores some teams were forced to wait around thinking there might be a playoff.

Notre Dame finished the tournament in 17th place.
