Ice Chips

  • This is sad news
Former Komets star Joe Kastelic, who once owned the record for most goals scored in the IHL, died Wednesday at 81. He skated for the Komets from 1953 to 1957 and then again in 1960-61.
  • Major signings for Komets
The Komets bolstered their roster with a potential No. 1 goaltender, a former first-round NHL draft pick, a familiar face and player who should be popular with the fans.
  • Former Komet in Elmira
Steven Shamanski, who had a cup of coffee with the Komets, has signed to play this season with Elmira of the ECHL.

Confirmed guess: Geary plus Lewis

FLINT, Mich. -- Gosh, I'm good.

The prospective new ownership group includes Evansville Icemen owner Ron Geary, as well as former Detroit Red Wings coach Dave Lewis.

They're all here tonight.

So is former Dayton Gems owner Richard Bruner, by the way, but he's not involved and some people didn't seem to pleased to see him.

I'm told we'll know a lot in the next week about the future of Flint and the IHL.

I also noticed famed broadcaster Terry Ficorelli giving a business card to a member of the Gems. I wonder if he's looking for a job there. He was with Muskegon this season, of course.

On the ice, it's tied at 4 midway through the second period. Fort Wayne's Justin Chwedoruk broke behind the defense and tucked a shot underneath Rob Nolan to get it to that score early in the frame.
