INDIANAPOLIS – State Auditor Tim Berry, an Allen County native, will officially file for re-election Wednesday.
He has served as the states chief financial officer since 2007.
Candidates for auditor are selected at their respective partys state convention. The 2010 Republican State Convention will be June 19.
Other offices selected at this years convention will be secretary of state and state treasurer.
Berry said in a statement that he is optimistic about the future of Indiana.
Weve made tough decisions in state government that Hoosier families face every day – insisting on living within our means and not spending what we simply do not have, he said. I believe that Hoosier taxpayers deserve government that operates in this manner, and our state will benefit because of these cost-saving measures.
Berry has cut his office expenditures each year and is on pace to return 12 percent of his budget appropriation to the state general fund.
He also has implemented a fully integrated financial management system – the first of its kind for all Indiana government.
Before becoming auditor, Berry served two terms as state treasurer.
He will likely face Sam Locke in the fall. Locke is the only Democrat to publicly announce he is seeking the auditor position so far. He grew up in Connersville and currently lives in southern Indiana.
The Democratic State Convention is June 26.
In the other races, candidates who have come forward include Republican Charlie White and Democrats Tom McKenna and Vop Osili for secretary of state; as well as Democrat Pete Buttigieg and Republican incumbent State Treasurer Richard Mourdock.
