Spiece U-14 girls win 2nd AAU title

The Spiece Gym Rats 2013 won their second straight Indiana AAU State 14-under girls basketball championship last weekend in Indianapolis.

The competition includes 13 of the best AAU girls teams in the state. The Gym Rats 2013 went 3-0 in the event.

Canterbury freshman Bailey Farley led the team with 17 points, Lindsay Baker (Warsaw) added 12 points and eight rebounds, and Emily Bley (Homestead) had 12 points.

Also playing were: De’Joya Johnson (South Side), Rachel and Ericka Rinehart (Angola), Ariana Simmons (South Side), Keanna Gary (Leo), Bryanna Moore (Canterbury) and Meredith Shipman (Snider).

Coaches include Gil Farley and Mike Bley.

Soccer academy picks director

The All Star Soccer Academy has made it official: Hani Rabi has been picked as the club’s director of coaching and player development.

Rabi has been a director of coaching for more than 25 years, owns the highest USSF National Coaching licenses and was the 2006 Indiana Youth Director of Coaching of the Year.

As the DOC of ASSA, he will implement the Rangers PFC travel program and oversee the training curriculum of the community academies in Auburn, Angola, Huntertown and Kendallville.

Concordia offering athletic camps

Concordia is offering athletics camps open to the public for elementary and middle school-aged children. Dates and cost vary by camp.

Most camps take place in late June or early July. Each activity has a minimum and maximum age allowed to participate.

Additional trout releases scheduled

Trout will be stocked in four northern Indiana streams by the Indiana Division of Fish and Wildlife before Memorial Day weekend.

The Pigeon River (Steuben and LaGrange counties) will be stocked at County Road 175 North and at County Line Road. Turkey Creek (LaGrange County) will be stocked at County Road 150 North. These stream crossings are on the Pigeon River Fish and Wildlife Area.
