Of course it's hard to evaluate talent before that talent has played a college game, but if high school numbers are a reflection, then IPFW's softball recruits could be ready to make an impact next season.
Second-year coach Amy Tudor had four high school players and a junior college player sign letters of intent to play next season.
The players are Megan Flenniken of Cincinnati St. Ursula, Kirsten Rohn of Lansing (Mich.) Community College, Brittney Kachur of Abbotsford, British Columbia, Sara Jacobson of Jacobs, Ill., and Audrey Mintari of Lockport, Ill.
The jewel could be Flenniken, a pitcher who ended up with 988 career strikeouts - 15th highest in Ohio high school history.
Flenniken finished with a 39-9 record with 296 strikeouts in 146 1/3 innings, with an ERA of 0.29. She had a perfect game, and struck out 33 in a 16-inning game. She also hit .487.
In other IPFW news, twin sisters Crystina (Martinez) Ridenour and Crystal (Martinez) Reichert will compete in the NCAA East track and field preliminary round May 27-29 at North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C.
