LOGANSPORT, Ind. – Efforts to open a satellite campus of Trine University in Logansport could cost the city $80,000.
But supporters say the money would be well spent and could allow many area students to get an affordable education.
Trine would occupy space in a city-owned building formerly occupied by Ivy Tech Community College. The city would provide the space at no cost for the first two years. After that, Trine would agree to a three-year lease and pay at least $3,000 a month so long as enrollment was sufficient.
Mayor Mike Fincher says Trine would likely pull students from Cass and surrounding counties and is a "great opportunity."
Trine officials say they hope to begin offering classes in Logansport in August.
The City Council will consider the matter Monday.
Trine's main campus is in Angola. The university was formerly called Tri-State University.
