Right-handed pitcher Dexter Carter and outfielder Rymer Liriano were sent to San Diego's extended spring training in Peoria, Ariz. Infielder/outfielder Joe Agreste was added to the TinCaps roster from extended spring training.
Carter, acquired as part of last year's trade that sent Jake Peavey to the White Sox, struggled with his command. A starter at the beginning of the season, he spent the last two weeks working out of the TinCaps' bullpen. Carter has a 1-4 record with a 6.63 ERA. He had 28 strikeouts and 24 walks in 38 innings. Carter also threw a team-high 13 wild pitches and hit a team-high six batters.
Liriano, projected as one of the top prospects in the San Diego organization, scuffled at the plate. He hit .191 with two homers and 20 RBI.
Agreste played for the Gateway Grizzles of the Independent Frontier League in 2009. He hit .303 with five homers and 33 RBI. A West Virginia product, he was signed as a non-drafted free agent last November.
