The remains of Tech. Sgt. Roy DeWitt Prater, a Vietnam War airman, will arrive in Columbia City between 8 and 9 p.m. today, Indiana State Police said.
Prater was killed in April 1972 when his helicopter was shot down during a massive effort to rescue a downed pilot. Prater's remains were not recovered and positively identified until March of this year.
Indiana State Police and the Patriot Guard Riders will escort the procession, which will travel from Indianapolis through Marion and Huntington and into Columbia City on Indiana 9.
According to his obituary, visitation is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 207 N. Main St. in Columbia City.
The committal service is at 2 p.m. Saturday at Blue River Cemetery, with full military honors provided by the U.S. Air Force.
