On 06-21-2010 at 0203 hours the Wabash County Sheriff's Department was dispatched to the Salamonie River State Forest in reference to a hiker that had fallen from a 25 foot waterfall. Jay Kay Stafford, 20 years old, from Warren, Indiana was hiking with five friends when she lost her footing at the top of a waterfall and fell 25 feet before landing on a rock ledge.
Miss Stafford was rescued from the base of the waterfall by personnel from the Wabash County Sheriff's Department, the Wabash City Fire Department, and the Lagro Volunteer Fire Department. During the rescue efforts Miss Stafford was conscious and alert. Miss Stafford was transported to the Marion County General Hospital for treatment of her injuries.
