A 20-year-old Warren woman was hiking at Salamonie River State Forest, lost her footing at the top of a waterfall and fell 25 feet to a rock ledge.
The Wabash County Sheriff's Department was called to the scene shortly after 2 a.m. today, according to a written statement from the sheriff’s department.
Jay Kay Stafford, 20, was with five friends before the accident, the statement said.
She was rescued from the base of the waterfall by personnel from the sheriff's department, the Wabash City Fire Department and the Lagro Volunteer Fire Department.
The sheriff’s department said Stafford was conscious and alert during the rescue and that she was transported to the Marion County General Hospital for treatment.
When contacted this morning, the hospital said it is its policy to release no patient information, so her condition could not be confirmed.
