Machines make crafting more creative

When my colleague Kim pitched a column idea on cake decorating, I thought it a great idea. I mean, let's face it, we crafty-types will try just about anything when it comes to crafting. When I read her column in Sunday's JG, I couldn't help but think about a new gadget that would make cake decorating a breeze.

Those of you who scrapbook already know about Provocraft's Cricut, a great machine that cuts out letters, numbers and shapes and that makes creating items like cards and posters (and wall decorations) a cinch. Now, the company has come out with the Cricut Cake and, can I just say "I WANT!" I don't decorate cakes, but fell in love with what this machine can do. You can watch YouTube videos of the Cricut Cake and decorated cakes here and here.

If you are not familiar with the Cricut and want to see it up close and personal, you can check out demonstrations at the Maysville Road Michaels store. The Cricut Cake demonstartion has passed, but other demos are:

June 27: 1-5 p.m. - Cricut Expression. A electronic die cutting machine that helps you create what you need - school or 4-H project, cards, signs and more. it will also cut fabric for quilting and vinyl for walls and windows and much more.

June 30: 4-8 p.m. - Cricut expression again.

Check out our Crafty Google calendar (located under Crafty Links at this blog) for other craft-related events, including a Provocraft Yudu demo at the same Michaels store.
