It’s time to enjoy the taste of the season with fresh, locally grown produce. Two new farmers markets are starting this year, while some old favorites have opened, just in time for summer.
The new Convivium in Leo-Cedarville is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays through October. Vendors, artists and musicians will gather in the North Leo Mennonite Church parking lot, 15419 Indiana 1. Vendors will sell produce honey, herbs, spices and baked goods.
The new East State Village Farmers Market is open from noon to 4 p.m. Sundays on the west side of the plaza at Allen County Public Library’s Tecumseh Branch, 1411 E. State Blvd. Vendors will offer produce, flowers and plants, herbs, pottery and jewelry.
Salomon Farmers Market, 817 W. Dupont Road, is open from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays through mid-October. More than 20 vendors set up in the barn with produce, eggs, flowers, baked goods, skin care products, honey, maple syrup and herbs.
Jefferson Pointe Farmers Market is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays with produce, plants, meats, jams and jellies. It’s in the parking lot near Bed Bath & Beyond.
Dupont Hospital Farmers Market is open from 1 to 6 p.m. Fridays at 2520 E. Dupont Road, Parking Lot E.
Casual Fridays at Joseph Decuis
Every Friday through the summer, Joseph Decuis in Roanoke will offer two opportunities for casual dining.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Emporium at Joseph Decuis, 151 N. Main St., will prepare burgers, brats and barbecue beef sandwiches as part of Hot off the Grill. Seating is available at the Emporium. (No reservations.)
Then from 5 to 8 p.m., the restaurant has a Blue Jeans, Burgers & Beer party in its courtyard at 191 N. Main St. Takeout is also available.
If it rains, grilling will be at the Emporium only for both lunch and dinner. For information, call 672-1715.
5-course dinner at JK O’Donnell’s
On Monday, JK O’Donnell’s will mix Death’s Door Spirits for specialty cocktails paired with a five-course dinner.
The menu features fried chicken livers, tomato and mozzarella salad, fish and chips, salmon with mushroom roulade and banoffee for dessert.
Drinks include five cocktails, such as a Washington Island Ice Tea and an Earthy Burg (with strawberry and mushroom-infused vodka). The dinner is $35, which doesn’t include tax or gratuity.

JK O’Donnell’s, 121 W. Wayne St., has $8 boxed lunches for those heading to the Lunch on the Square concerts on Thursdays through July. (The concerts are from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at One Summit Square courtyard, Wayne and Calhoun streets).
The lunches include a sandwich, coleslaw or potato salad, homemade chips and a shortbread cookie. Sandwich choices are chicken salad, smoked turkey and vegetables, or a hot ham and Swiss.
Clay’s celebrates dual anniversary
Clay’s Restaurant in Fremont is celebrating its 60/35 anniversary through Dec. 18.
Clay’s opened 60 years ago; it has been owned and operated by the Baker family for 35 years.
There will be daily specials and giveaways, including the chance to win a free lunch or a $50 gift certificate. Each winner will be entered in the grand prize drawing Dec. 18, with the chance to win $1,000.
Hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays to Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Fridays, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturdays and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays. It is closed Mondays.
