Statement issued by Indiana Michigan Power

A series of powerful thunderstorms moved through Indiana Michigan Power service territory beginning on June 18.

From June 18 - 23, an estimated 123,000 I&M customers experienced interruptions in electric service as a result of high winds and lightning associated with the storms. Numerous reports of downed trees and power lines and property damage were received by local authorities.

Crews are working to restore power in the following Indiana counties: Allen, DeKalb, Elkhart, LaPorte, Noble, St. Joseph and Whitley: and in the following counties in Michigan: Berrien, Cass and St. Joseph.

I&M predicts there are just over 10,000 customers who are awaiting service restoration across its service area as of 4 PM on June 24.

Status as of 4:15 a.m. Thursday

  • Avilla and surrounding area, 2,900
  • Elkhart, 1,400
  • Fort Wayne and surrounding area, 1,900
  • LaPorte and surrounding area, 100
  • South Bend and surrounding area, 2,800
