Former Komets coach John Torchetti, who helped the Chicago Blackhawks to the Stanley Cup as an assistant coach, is joining the Atlanta Thrashers as an associate coach.

It had been heavily rumored that Torchetti would be the head coach in Atlanta, where his longtime friend and mentor Rick Dudley is the general manager, but the Thrashers went with Craig Ramsay.
- I tried several times to reach David Hukalo but was unsuccessful, so I don't know for sure if he's officially retired, but several of his teammates with the Komets have told me that he is indeed done. The 2009 playoffs MVP hadn't been in the Komets' plans for next season, anyway, largely because of the Central Hockey League's use of fewer veterans. Hukalo has been one of the best defensive players in the team's history.
- Lincoln Kaleigh Schrock had another meeting with Komets management today and he said it went well. He plans to give them an answer by Wednesday, as he weighs offers from the ECHL. I don't really have a feel for what he might do. He has a legitimate shot to move up, and he knows the best chance for that would be in the ECHL. But he also loves playing in his hometown and isn't looking to turn his back on that. If the Komets were smart, they made him a good offer. This is a guy who could be a captain someday.
