Colorado’s Jimenez beats St. Louis for victory No. 15

– Ubaldo Jimenez had another dominating outing in his last start of the first half of the season. Now, he’s ready to take on the American League’s best.

Jimenez became the first pitcher in 10 years to reach 15 wins before the All-Star break and the Colorado Rockies beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4-2 Thursday to sweep the three-game series.

Jimenez (15-1) is headed to the All-Star Game in Anaheim on Tuesday. The only question is if he gets the starting nod, but the humble Jimenez wasn’t lobbying for the gig.

“That’s not a question for me,” he said. “Anyone would want to start.”

After struggling in his past three starts, he was dominant over eight innings. He had one bad inning in each of those starts but he avoided that Thursday in becoming the first pitcher to have 15 wins at the break since Toronto’s David Wells in 2000.

Jimenez allowed one run and three hits. He struck out six and walked two.

“The way I pitched in my previous three outings I wanted to bounce back, especially in the last game before the All-Star break,” he said.

PHILLIES 4, REDS 3, 12 inn.: Brian Schneider hit a game-ending homer in the bottom of the 12th, giving host Philadelphia a victory over NL Central-leading Cincinnati.

Shane Victorino had a solo homer for the struggling Phillies, who had lost seven of 10. They overcame another blown save by Brad Lidge to win this one.

Joey Votto hit his league-leading 22nd homer hours after the Reds’ first baseman was named to the All-Star team.

GIANTS 9, BREWERS 3: Aubrey Huff homered and drove in four runs, and rookie Buster Posey homered as San Francisco’s bullpen held on to complete a four-game road sweep.

Andres Torres homered in the eighth and Posey homered for the fourth time in the series in the ninth.

ASTROS 2, PIRATES 0: Roy Oswalt allowed only a first-inning single to Neil Walker, and Lance Berkman provided the power with two home runs as Houston completed a three-game home sweep.

Oswalt’s seventh career shutout and 19th complete game finished the Astros’ third sweep of the season.

The win breaks a career-long, six-game home losing streak for Oswalt (6-10), who requested a trade earlier this season. He struck out eight and walked two for his first victory at Minute Maid Park since April 23.

PADRES 7, NATIONALS 1: Mat Latos threw seven shutout innings and had two hits, including one of San Diego’s four homers in Washington.

Latos (10-4) won his career-high fifth consecutive decision. He gave up five hits and two walks, with eight strikeouts.

San Diego’s Chris Denorfia homered for the second consecutive game.
