City network to air prep state finals

– IHSAA state championship events are coming to Fort Wayne television airwaves, and it will be more than just football and basketball.

The IHSAA Championship Television Network and Indiana’s NewsCenter have entered a multiyear partnership to air state finals events in 11 sports each year.

It will be in football, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls swimming and diving, baseball, softball, team and individual wrestling, volleyball and boys and girls soccer, as well as pairing shows.

The events will air on WISE-TV Channel 33 or MyTV Fort Wayne.

“Many of the high school events will be seen on local broadcast television for the first time,” INC president and general manager Jerry Giesler said in a news release. “This is possible through our network of stations allowing us to deliver state championship coverage in more sports to the largest possible audience.”

All five football state finals games (Bishop Luers is the defending Class 2A state champion) will air on Channel 33 in November, as well as boys and girls basketball state finals in the spring. The girls state finals are in Fort Wayne again this year, with Canterbury the three-time defending Class A state champion and Concordia the returning champ in 3A.

The remaining sports will air on MyTV, along with the football and basketball pairing shows. Carroll won the 4A baseball state title, while Bishop Dwenger took home the 3A softball championship.
