Brey has penalty in mind for arrested players

Notre Dame basketball players Tim Abromaitis and Eric Atkins better report in top shape.

Because it sounds like they have a lot of running in their future after they were arrested on charges of underage drinking over the weekend.

Irish basketball coach Mike Brey told reporters Tuesday that “the old coach will handle it” after their cases go through Student Affairs, according to The Associated Press.

"A lot of sweating will be involved," Brey said. "That’s the one thing I can say specifically and then we’ll handle it from there.”

Abromaitis, the Irish’s second leading scorer last season averaging 16 points, and Atkins, an incoming freshman, were among 44 people arrested Friday night after police responded to a call about a fight near a roadway and discovered a party, authorities told the AP.

There were 11 Notre Dame athletes arrested at the party, including eight football players and a hockey player.

Brey told reporters that Abromaitis and Atkins called to inform him of the situation.
