Train strikes Ohioan sitting on platform

OSSINING, N.Y. – An Ohio man remains in critical condition after being struck by a freight train in New York’s Westchester County.

Metro-North said Christopher Newman was sitting on the train platform in Ossining, leaning forward with his legs dangling over the tracks on Saturday. He was struck in the head and is at Westchester Medical Center.

The 19-year-old man from Massillon, Ohio, suffered severe head and back injuries. The railroad said his legs were merely bruised due to the gap between the train and platform.

Newman had been out with a group of friends who had gotten out at the Tarrytown station. When they realized he wasn’t with them, they went looking for him station to station.
