There was supposed to be closure for coaches but after Mondays Fort Wayne Community Schools board meeting, there are only more questions.
Interviews were conducted and names were passed along to FWCS human resources department that were supposedly headed to the school board for approval.
But that last part of the process never got on the boards agenda. So schools may have to wait for two weeks to officially have coaches, in particular for fall sports.
For football, coaches have supposedly been hired at Wayne (Kyle Beauchamp), North Side (Ryan Hall) and South Side (Mike Cheviron), and their approval was going to be a formality before the FWCS board.
There was brief, general discussion at the meeting about coaches being hired, but no action was taken.
The next FWCS board meeting is Aug. 9. The clock is ticking, though, with fall practice (and girls golf competition) starting Monday.
Interviews were conducted last week for the North Side, South Side and Wayne openings, with decisions on coaches being made soon after.
But because of an FWCS-mandated gag order, coaches and athletic directors were unable to speak about the positions. Northrops process is still in the interview stage.
Beauchamp, who will teach government and economics at Wayne, was the Elmhurst coach the last two years and was 1-19 with the win against Northrop.
At North Side and South Side, players have been going through the same summer conditioning and workouts as usual, with Hall running things as the Redskins interim coach and Cheviron as usual with the Archers.
Hall was defensive coordinator with the Redskins the last two years.
He is in line to replace Casey Kolkman, who left for Bluffton in June. Cheviron has been at South Side for four years.
Coaching as well as teaching positions came open as part of FWCS shaking things up academically at the LEAD schools, including North Side, South Side and Wayne.
Some coaching positions also were available after more than 300 teachers were laid off and given the opportunity to reapply for their and other positions.
Messages with athletic directors at South Side, North Side, Wayne and Northrop went unreturned.
