I love old hats. Hers is a bit crazy. The child's bonnet is adorable. I'm not sure you could get a 7-year-old to wear one now, however.

Another Look at Butterick's 1892 Metropolitan Fashions

I would call this bonnet a very classic and wearable shape. It would be easy and fun to knit, too. You could even have a nice, continuous band of pattern knitting from the forehead to the nape of the neck.
