Two Auburn men indicted two years ago in a rash of pharmacy robberies appeared in U.S. District Court in Fort Wayne this week to answer to the charges.
Samuel J. Miller, 25, and Damian J. Miller, 28, were indicted in February 2008 on three counts each of using violence and intimidation to take controlled substances from those registered with the federal government while using a dangerous weapon.
The case involved the robbery of two area Walgreens stores, one twice, in which robbers made off with the powerful prescription painkiller OxyContin. The time-released drug is used to treat pain from injuries, arthritis and cancer. If crushed and then snorted, swallowed or injected, the prescription drug produces a heroin-like high. The Federal Bank Robbery Task Force investigated the robberies.
The two men were arrested in January 2008 for robbing a Walgreens in the Indianapolis area. The two were sentenced to a state prison for that robbery, and federal prosecutors sought their appearance in federal court to answer to the indictments.
