Woman abducted; ex held in Michigan

Hower

A Michigan man accused of kidnapping his ex-girlfriend from a Huntington County home this week faces several charges.

Huntington County sheriff’s deputies were called about 8:30 p.m. Monday to a rural Huntington home on a report of a possible abduction.

When deputies arrived in the 2500 block of East County Road 300 North, they were told a woman who was staying there had been kidnapped by her ex-boyfriend, according to Sgt. Ron Galaviz, Indiana State Police spokesman.

The suspected kidnapper, later identified as Jack Hower, 51, of Coldwater, Mich., had forced the woman into her van and started driving north, Galaviz said. Hower was arrested about 100 miles north in Branch County, Mich., during a traffic stop. Sheriff’s deputies there assisted in the arrest.

Hower was heading back to his Coldwater home where he and the woman lived until their recent breakup, Galaviz said.

Hower faces felony charges of kidnapping and criminal confinement and a misdemeanor battery charge in Huntington County. He is charged with felony assault and misdemeanor driving with a suspended license in Branch County.

He is being held in Michigan in lieu of $150,000 bail.
