Grand jury indicts 2 on cocaine charges

A federal grand jury in Fort Wayne returned a number of indictments this week.

Arrested this month on a federal criminal complaint, Francisco Ruiz, 28, and Wendy Ramirez, 25, were indicted on two counts – possessing more than 500 grams of cocaine with intent to distribute and maintaining a place for the purpose of dealing or using a controlled substance.

When a U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency task force and Fort Wayne police searched the couple’s Pleasant Valley Drive home, they found the kilogram brick of cocaine, a money counter and plastic wrap.

Ruiz said the couple were moving to another home, so police went to that location. There, Ramirez gave them consent to search the house. Police and agents found $20,000 in cash stashed in an air duct, a loaded handgun, and receipts for $15,000 in new furniture and a $26,000 vehicle, according to court documents.

Also indicted this week were Shawn Hagler, 32, and William Hagler, 33.

The two are accused of the August 2000 armed robbery of what was then the National City Bank branch in Woodburn.
