6 years for neglecting baby’s fracture

A 22-year-old Fort Wayne man was sentenced to six years in prison and four years on probation Friday on a charge of neglect of a dependent, stemming from his infant son’s broken leg.

Landrian A. Trotter, of the 1600 block of Hobson Road, pleaded guilty this summer, admitting to failing to seek proper medical care for his 7-week-old son.

According to court documents, it took Trotter more than two hours to seek medical treatment for the baby, and when he did, doctors did not believe his explanation for the spiral fracture in the baby’s leg – that the baby had fallen off a bed.

Trotter told police the “baby is spoiled and always tripping,” or crying, according to court documents.

Allen Superior Court Judge John Surbeck sentenced Trotter to 10 years in prison but ordered four years of the sentence suspended and served on probation.
